If you want to use heavy pictures first compress them using compression software so that webpage take less time to load on viewer’s web browser.

Contact details: Website visitor may have some query about your product or service offered on your website. But your contact detail is no where to be found on the website. This may be because of no link to contact page or you forget to include contact detail in your website. Result you lose a good customer for a life. While designing your website don’t forget to include contact detail page and link to this page in your home page.

Links: It’s good idea to include links in content to make content more understandable for viewer. While including links remember these points:

1. Include only those links which are related to topic in which they are specified. 2. Don’t forget to underline and change the color of the link so that it can be easy for website visitor to identify them.
3. Link should look like part of content. e.g. “We provide the best website design services
4. Check your links regularly and remove broken links.

Link Information: If you have links or resources page in your website, which contains links to other websites on internet, don’t forget to include brief description about each link. This will give brief idea to visitor as to what website he/ she is going to visit. e.g: “Best Design Services - Web site design Company”.

Eliminate Unnecessary Things: Look at your site and question yourself: Would the animated graphics look good? Is the Flash intro impressive? Eliminate unnecessary graphics element on your web site to avoid distracting the webpage visitor.

Select simple way: There are many ways to solve a problem, but try to solve it in a simple and convenient way. The same rule also applies to web site design. Don’t use JavaScript to create link because this can also be done using HTML. And the difference between two methods are: Java script is not search engine friendly and also not supported by some old browser on other hand HTML works 100% on all browsers.

Use things in better way: Use of animation on your website is a good idea in order to make a Flash website design. But if not used correctly it will make your site inaccessible to a wide audience. Never use technology because it is new. Try to find easy alternatives to Flash, and use it if absolutely necessary. It makes webpage heavy and thus it loads slowly as compared to normal HTML page with GIF/ JPEG images.

A website is a powerful tool of advertisement all around the world. It speaks about you and your organization to people in different locations all around the world. If you are a beginner and don’t know much about website design then follow these simple steps to get your website started.

1. Research work: Before starting any design work, do some research about your company, targeted audience and your competitors. Decide a preliminary design as per the result of this research. This research work would lay down the groundwork into making your website more effective and unique.

2. Unique Design: Just like your personality and your attitude, your website design should be unique. Plagiarized designs create confusion in the viewer’s mind and convey a bad image about your company. Hence, try to make your Website design as creative and unique as possible.

3. Content for your website: Create content that is related purely to your website. To make your content more engaging, use different colors and font styles. Avoid grammatical and spelling mistakes. Include some examples to make your content more understandable.

4. Color: If you have any corporate colors, then use those colors for your website design; else use colors that can convey a clear message about your company to the viewers. Try to avoid bright colors as much as possible. 5.

5. Browser Compatibility: Almost all the users of Windows Operating system use the Microsoft Internet explorer for internet browsing. However, what about Linux and Macintosh users? These operating systems have their own web browsers. And almost 80% web designers use those html tags which are only supported by Microsoft internet explorer. There is a possibility that your website design may not look good in those browsers (Netscape, Mozilla Firefox). So after completing your designing work do not forget to check your website design in these browsers.

6. Music: Using music for music related sites is a good idea. However, if you have non-music website and want to use music, then do not use any background music or sound to auto-play. A good approach is to provide a choice to the viewers after indicating the file size.

7. Simple: Simple websites look clean and attract more visitors. It allows the visitors to find the information that they are looking for easily rather than hunting here and there. Another advantage of a simple web design is that it loads faster. Simple designs are easy to create and modify.

How TO Design a Web Banner

Web banner is a channel of internet marketing. Banners are constructed from image, flash, JavaScript or multimedia object. An effective banner design can increase the number of clicks on your site. Follow these points to make your web banner design more effective:

1. Effective Punch Line: Create a punch line that attracts and persuades your visitors to click on your web banner. It should be small and effective. Use proper fonts and colors to improve the readability of the punch line.

2. Copy: An effective banner has an admirable copy. Spend some time to think about the visitor’s interest. Keep the copy short and small. The content should be meaningful and support the banner punch line.

3. Content: Images and content in your web banner should be related to the product or services that you are offering on your site. The image of a Mobile phone in your banner will attract the attention of mobile users; although if your site is about something else, then your visitors will clear out of your site as fast as possible. At the end of the day you will get more hits but no sales.

4. Include Your Logo and Website Address: if the objective of your web banner ad is to promote your brand image then it is advisable to include both your company logo and website URL in your banner. However, be sure that they don’t dilute the punch line.

5. Trite Phrase: Study shows that trite phrase (“Click here” or “Free”) in your web banner can increase the click thru rate. The phrase should be displayed for 2-3 seconds and in the last frame of the animated banner. To make things even better, you can animate the phrase as well.

6. File Size: Keep the file size of your web banner as small as possible, reason being, banners displayed at the top of a particular webpage load only when the corresponding web page is loaded on the web browser. They should, hence, load before the visitor moves on to another page.

7. Animation: Animated banners have click thru rates greater than those of static banners by 30-40%. The main drawback, however, of an animated banner is its large file size. However, you can optimize the design by reducing the colors or animation.

8. Blue Underline Text: Internet users understand blue underlined text as a link. If you are going to advertise your banner on a webpage which has white background then you should create a banner with blue underlined text, written in common fonts such as Arial or Verdana. This banner will give the impression of being a part of the content.

Common Mistakes in Website Design

1. Poor color combination: Sometimes web designers use too bright colors which result in a decrease in the readability of the content. Loud colors are usually avoided by viewers. Hence, a poor color combination can successfully defeat the very basic purpose of your website.

2. Improper Fonts: The purpose of using different fonts for your website is to make its content more appealing. However, some designers go for font types which are classic although difficult to read. Making the content difficult for the viewer to read will successfully make your visitor ignore your content altogether. Also avoid using underlined text to highlight it since this makes it difficult for your viewers to differentiate between underlined text and links (since both are underlined).

3. Links: if you are using a link as a keyword in your website content, then make it underlined and colored (blue) so that viewer can easily differentiate between links and text, eg, “Real estate website design “. Keep in mind, though, that the keyword you’re using makes full sense and is relevant to the document, besides going with the flow of the content.

4. Unwanted Animations: Animation, no doubt, makes the webpage more attractive. On the other hand, it increases the file size which effects the loading time of the web site. It also distracts the viewer attention.

5. Content: Content is the soul of a website. It speaks about the website, its purpose, the company and its product or services. Most common mistakes seen in content writing are spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes and irrelevant content.

6. Compatibility Issue: Most of the web designers design their websites so as to make them compatible only with Microsoft internet explorer. As a result these websites do not turn out as well in the other browsers available in the market, eg. (Mozilla Firefox and Netscape).

7. Popup and web banner: Use of web banners and pop ups on a website for advertisement and to earn extra money is a good idea although excessive use of these can spoil the design of your website and distract the users’ attention towards the advertiser’s website.

8. Contact Information: Nobody’s wants to share his or her contact details on a public platform (phone number, email id etc). Most of the websites ask visitors to enter their email-id for subscribing to newsletters or for getting their queries about the website answered. Getting the visitors’ email id is, of course, indispensable if you want to contact them but before asking for their email ids, it would be a good idea to show them the Terms and Condition/ Privacy Policy. If they feel secure enough after going through them, then ask if they would like to provide their email ids.

9. Java Script: Java script runs on the client side. If java script is disabled by the client, it will not run bringing the correspondent operations to a halt as well. Another problem with java script is that it is not search-engine friendly.
